We also use volunteer human translators for some of our Foundation work, and that, I must say, is difficult because there are so many demands on everyone’s time that it’s hard to get translations done when they’re needed. In fact, what we non-profits need is translation services that are free or very low cost, that we can call on periodically. If someone figures out a good way to do this, they will have done a great service.

You represent a human-based translation service, which I’m sure performs a great service as well. What is the mix that will work best?

I work for a language services company and the one thing working here has really impressed upon me is how important it is to be able to communicate in all languages. The world is constantly changing and with the increased ability to travel it’s more multicultural than ever.

Sites like this that are translated into different languages open doors for people who don’t speak english to access things that they might not otherwise be able to do.
