How often people claim credit for originality when in fact what they have done has been done long before by someone else. The ‘originality’ bug has played havoc in science. Sir Isaac Newton would not want to give credit to Leibniz for inventing calculus; more recently Robert Galo would claim credit for the work on AIDS/HIV virus and Luc Montagnier had to contest to win it back. All because the reward system in science does not encourgage the commons approach; indeed it encourages competition, some times unhealthy competition.

Where’s the graciousness and humble pie?
